Casio's G-Shock watch line is designed to resist mechanical stress, shock and vibration. An abbreviation for Gravitational Shock, G-Shock is an apt name for a watch that's meant to withstand the elements. G-Shock watches have many features, including:
Chronograph (stopwatch)
200m water resistance
An alarm
Digital and analogue displays (or a combination of the two)
Countdown timer

Backlight
The G-Shock was invented in 1981 by Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe after he accidentally dropped and broke his father's pocket watch. The idea behind the G-Shock was to create a watch that would last 10x longer than ordinary watches, withstand water pressure of ten bars and survive falls from 10-metres.

Casio's G-Shock line of watches became increasingly popular throughout the 1990s. By 1998, the company had released more than 200 different models. These numbers are astounding and show just how popular G-Shocks are worldwide. The popularity of these watches continues to grow, with more than 70 million units sold since their introduction in 1983.
